India Post Commemorates Centenary of Corps of Signal

India post issued a commemorative stamp of Rs.5 to celebrate centenary of Corps of Signal - a special unit of Indian Army.Corps of Signal is that unit of Indian army which handles all the military communication. The Corps of Signal was established in 1911- shortly before the First World War under Lieutenant Colonel S H Powell.
After the independence, the Brigadier CHI Acehurst became the first head of the Corps of Signals.
The corps celebrated its 100-year anniversary of its foundation on 15 February 2011. Hence, a stamp worth Rs.5 was issued commemorating the valuable service provided by the Corps of Signal.
The Indian Army became the first agency to use digital technology for both switching and transmission.
